FAQ: Microneedling in Houston, TX

  • What can I expect from a microneedling treatment

SkinPen microneedling is a handheld device that glides over the surface of the skin and creates a series of micro-channel injuries. This therapy enhances the body’s own repair system to induce collagen production and minimal resurfacing which renders more radiant looking skin with less downtime. Patients typically experience a light sunburn sensation for 24-72 hours post therapy with a minor dry skin feeling. You are allowed to apply sunscreen and makeup 24 hours post treatment.

Until your skin has completely healed, avoid rigorous activities that might cause excessive sweating and heat production (running, high-intensity workouts, etc.). Sweating may cause irritation and rigorous activity may increase the risk of swelling, bruising and hyperpigmentation. This usually should be avoided for at least 48-72 hours after your treatment.

  • Why should I choose microneedling?

A well-established acne scar treatment, microneedling is also a great option for anyone with skin texture issues and is appropriate for all skin types. This proven skin rejuvenation treatment will help improve the appearance of uneven texture, fine lines, acne scars, pore size and hyperpigmentation. It is a minimally invasive treatment that harnesses and directs the body’s natural healing process. It has minimal downtime and is easy to integrate into a busy schedule.

  • Can microneedling be combined with other aesthetic treatments?

Yes! Microneedling can be used alone or with a patient’s own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to help enhance treatment results with decreased downtime. Please see our PRP page for more information.

  • Am I a good candidate for microneedling?

Please feel free to schedule a consultation with Dr. Melissa Bender to determine if you are a candidate for microneedling.

  • How many microneedling treatments do I need?

For optimal results, we recommend undergoing a series of four microneedling treatments. We will tailor your microneedling regimen to your exact needs and goals during your personal consultation.

  • Does microneedling require anesthesia?

It is common to apply prescription-strength topical numbing prior to this procedure which minimizes any discomfort during the procedure.

  • How long do results last?

Initial results are visible even a few days after the procedure, but collagen and elastin will continue to build for months after the procedure takes place. A series of treatments is required to achieve best results. This is typically seen around six to eight weeks after the final treatment. It is recommended to maintain results with touch-up treatments in the future.
